Many of our customers take their custom gobos with them on business trips and to special events. Gobos are a wonderfully convenient way to project your company's logo on a nearby wall or structure, and they're much easier to pack up and take with you than a banner or sign.
If you're thinking about purchasing a gobo and using it for mobile applications, here are a few tips to ensure that you get the most out of your system:
- Projection angles are important. Ideally, a gobo projector should be positioned perpendicular to the projected image. If you project at an angle, the image will distort, which is called keystone distortion. The impact of the distortion also depends on the aspect ratio of the projection. For example, when the projector points sideways, a rather more portrait-oriented artwork will look less distorted than a landscape-oriented art, such as a text line. Many non-permanent setups won't allow you to project straight on and you will have to make compromises. In such situations, you can get away with some distortion but typically you may want to avoid placing the projector more than 30 degrees out of perpendicular. For permanent installations we can pre-distort the image on the gobo so it projects straight even when at an angle.
- Choose the right surface for projection. Remember that a gobo projection will look different depending on the ambient light situation and the projection surface. Try to find out ahead of time if the venue where you'll be using your gobo will present any challenges, such as too much interior light or a lack of flat, neutral-color places to display the gobo image.
- Keep it cool. When you are finished using your gobo projector, particularly the ECO Spot 2500 Large Scale Projector, try to give it a few minutes to cool down and return to normal temperatures. Otherwise, you could risk burning yourself or starting a fire.
