Unless you're a professional lighting designer, architect or event planner, you may not be totally clear on what you can use gobos for. In this article we'll highlight a few situations where having one or more custom gobos can add a professional, elegant aesthetic to interior and exterior spaces:
- Advertise your company at a big street fair: Are there any big community events in your area that would be good opportunities to promote your brand, such as a carnival, parade or an outdoor market? You can use a gobo to project your company's name and logo on the side of a nearby building facade. This will almost certainly be easier and less expensive than paying the building owner to hang a permanent sign, and at night it will catch peoples' attention much more effectively.
- Decorate a plain-looking floor: If you're hosting an event at a site where the floors aren't especially attractive, a gobo projection will impress your guests and draw their attention away from the fact that the facility may not be the most beautiful or interesting.
- Display a logo on your stage: Let's say you're a rock band and you want to have your group's logo projected behind you. Some bands might have a sheet that hangs from the ceiling. Others may simply hope that the audience heard their introduction at the beginning. However, a hanging cloth isn't always the most attractive backdrop, and attendees who arrived late may not have heard your group's name announced. In these situations, having your name displayed behind you with a gobo will both look great and let your audience know who they're listening to.
- Energize a gallery space: If you're an artist who is holding a showing of your best work, a gobo can liven up your space, particularly if it's a makeshift exhibit where you have less control over how the room looks.
