Las Vegas is a town where a nightclub has to remain highly competitive in order to succeed, and optimizing every single facet of operations from musical acts to the lighting design is essential for competing in this market. The Marquee Nightclub demonstrated this with a recent upgrade to its lighting systems and design, including switching over entirely to LED lights.
"Any venue in an A market needs to update technologies to stay competitive because they play such a strong supporting role in creating the atmosphere," Steve Lieberman, the designer hired by the club, told Live Design. "At Marquee, we wanted to create a new design that would carry them through the next several years, something that was low profile but has a couture element that wouldn't get old."
The nightclub's new lighting takes a 360 degree approach to ensuring the dance floors, bars and seating areas are all lit dynamically. This allowed Lieberman to create a more immersive environment for the club's all-night festivities, making sure that even patrons sitting at the outer edges feel the pull toward the dance floor, rather than like spectators.
Lieberman noted that the design concept he used involved many different levels, from the VIP areas to the DJ's stage, with 14 different zones. This required careful spacing and placement of the fixtures so that the light would radiate out from the dance floor while accommodating varying ceiling heights, soffits, the multi-level building and advanced geometrical design.
