The Emmanuel Community Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has embraced gobo lights as part of their religious services. In an effort to engage and illuminate its congregation, the church is focusing on taking its worship to new heights, not just lighting a stage.
"Another church that we had done work for referred us to Emmanuel, because they knew that we shared the same philosophy of the role lighting can play in a house of worship," Doug Hood, the lighting designer who worked with the church, told Live Design. "Typically, our clients aren't just looking for ways to light a stage; they also want to use lighting to help communicate their message through all the activities a church engages in, including worship services, sermons, concerts and other productions. We love to give our clients a variety of lighting tools to work with so they have a lot of flexibility to create different looks for the different ways they serve their communities."
Gobo lights are the perfect way to achieve a more flexible, dynamic lighting system that can communicate messages. The use of custom gobo designs to throw words and symbols onto walls, ceilings and floors can make a lasting impression on a congregation, while acting as lighting for a room at the same time.
The designer used several moving fixtures in the church's primary worship center, as well as a few smaller projectors in its family center to accomplish the desires of the client. This will allow them to light services, but also use the gobos in unique ways for musical performances and other events held at the church.
