The 14th annual South African Guide Dogs Association's "Red Carpet Affair" charity fundraising gala dinner highlights the important role that guide dogs play in people's lives, and this year's event was illuminated using more than 75 gobo lights.
According to Live Design, the team behind the lighting selected gobo lights due to the ability to alter the lighting dramatically for the different aspects of the event, which included live DJing by DJ Darkness – a blind DJ – and DJ Mello Yellow, comedy acts, the dining tables and, of course, the red carpet area itself. The event is designed to highlight the importance of guide dogs and the benefits they bring to the disabled, and gobo lighting helped to accomplish this with style.
"This year the line up and running order made it a relatively straightforward exercise," Theo Rood, project manager for the design company that worked the event, told the news source, "And the benefit was that everyone felt more involved in the action and it became physically a much more intimate environment."
Gobo projectors were used to throw patterns and images around the event hall, across the ceiling and tables, creating a more intimate ambiance for both the dinner and shows.
The funds raised by the charity gala go toward the training of new guide dogs and the operations of the South African GDA.
Gobos can bring any event to life, lighting up a room in unique and interesting ways while allowing for there to be specific focus on areas of importance, or blending interesting patterns with spot use.
